Sharpening Your Saw
Have you heard the story about two lumberjacks? No, this is not the start of a bad joke!
Two lumberjacks were challenged to cut down as many trees as they could in 8 hours. They both had the same tools, and the same skills.
The first lumberjack decided he would work as hard and quickly as he could. He did not take any breaks, and his final result was 10 trees in 8 hours. He struggled after 6-7 trees because his saw was getting dull, so he had to work even harder to get the job done.
The second lumberjack decided he would cut down 5 trees, and then stop and sharpen his saw. Once his saw was sharpened he resumed his work. After he had cut down 10 trees, he stopped to sharpen his saw again. His final result was 15 trees in 8 hours.
“Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.” Abraham Lincoln.
This story illustrates how important it is to take the time to sharpen your saw.
What is sharpening your saw? I think of it as caring for yourself physically, mentally, spiritually, and socially/emotionally. I will share things here to help you sharpen your saw spiritually by ensuring your mind is receiving kind messages EVERY day.
I know it is tough to feel great about yourself when you are not working. (Believe me I went through the stages of grief early on my journey. Allow yourself to feel sad about loosing your job, this is important to begin the healing.) But, when you are kind to yourself you are better able to tackle all the other challenges each day brings.
Here I will share things to help all of us sharpen our saws:
I’d like to try meditation/yoga…..
Creating a workout schedule
How to stay socially close and physically distant
My favorite afternoon pick-me up drink (no there is no alcohol in it!!)
Need a treat? I have some recommendations….
Home facials
Enjoying nature
